First Beach (Pantai 1) Tanjung Aru — Food, Playground & Sunset Crowds

Last updated: October 2026

First Beach, locally called Pantai 1, is the main and most lively stretch of Tanjung Aru Beach. It sits closest to the Tanjung Aru Plaza entrance and is where most visitors base themselves for the evening sunset.

If you want food, facilities and a lively atmosphere within a short walk, this is the section to aim for. It is also the most crowded at golden hour, so arrive early to claim a spot on the sand.

What you will find on First Beach

The shore here is backed by casual food and drinks stalls selling grilled corn, young coconut, ice cream and local snacks. A children’s playground and open lawn make it the default choice for families.

Souvenir stalls and small shops line the access road, and public toilets and basic facilities are concentrated in this section rather than the quieter beaches further along.

Best time to be here

The beach is open through the day, but the natural peak is the last one to two hours before sunset when the sky over the South China Sea turns orange. Aim to arrive 60–90 minutes before the listed sunset time for your visit date.

Weekday evenings are noticeably calmer than weekends and public holidays, when the lawn and car parks fill up.
